Tikal
One of the biggest and most important site of the Mayan world. The natural park covers a surface of 552 km2. Around this ancient city more than 3000 structures like temples, palaces, ball courts and even sauna are already uncovered.
Copan
Exceptional site with delicately sculpt stelas are worth seeing. The museum is also very well documented. Don't miss it.
Quirigua
This small site situated in the middle of a banana plantation has the tallest stelae known from the Mayan culture. They are still well preserved. These beautiful stelae tell the story on the relationship of Quirigua and its neighbor city Copan.
Iximche
These are the ruins of the ancient Cakchiquel capital, whose inhabitant rose against the conquistador.
Zaculeu
Post classical ruins. Temple, ball court and a small museum. They are the only restaured site fo the highlands.
La Democracia
Situated on the pacific coast, this site is interresting because of the mix of the Olmec and Maya cultures.
Mixco Viejo
Mayan site in the highlands of Guatemala, at 6km from the Motagua river and north west of Chimaltenango, where the religious and military capital of the Pokoman was found. The town was conquered by Pedro de Alvarado in 1525
