Each village has a different costume and each one competes with imagination to create the "huipiles". The women are real artists. Posibility to take a course of hand weaving.
POTTERY
The main villages that produce pottery are Chinautla (jars and subjects such as angels, churches ect...) Rabinal (jars with Mayan shapes painted on them with lively colors) and Totonicapan.
WOODEN MASK
Old tradition in Antigua inherited from the Spanish. Sculpted and painted wood.
CANDLES
In Antigua you'll find all kinds of candles. They are used in great quantity for decoration.
JADE, JEWELS AND MASKS
The Maya used the Jade, "stone of ijada" to cure kidney diseases. Second producer of Jade after China, Guatemala is specialized in masks and quality jewels.
In Antigua Guatemala you can find several factories and some of them offer tours to the workshops. |
